Helping the Hearing Impaired helps everyone. Imagine not hearing your child’s laughter, their cries, the chirping of birds in the spring, that is something the Hearing Impaired face each day.
SFC David Hack, USA (Ret), suffered significant combat wounds in Vietnam and realized that you can never give up. Facing the continuing loss of vision in both eyes, Sgt. Hack discovered treatments that were not available in the 1960’s and have now slowed the deterioration of his vision. Sgt. Hack’s daughter, Brittany, was discovered to have lost her hearing at 15 years old due to a virus. Learning from his personal injuries Sgt. Hack sought out experts to help correct his daughter’s hearing problem, thus Helping the Hearing Impaired.
Witnessing her fathers efforts to help her, Brittany desired to help those like her and those who are more fully hearing impaired. She began studying American Sign Language specializing in sign language interpretation through education, training and community service thereby Helping the Hearing Impaired, giving back, helping those who struggle to hear sounds as clearly as their non-hearing impaired friends.
Sarge and Brittany discovered Cochlear implants. A Cochlear implant is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. An implant does not restore normal hearing, instead it can give a deaf person a representation of sounds in the environment and help them to understand speech. In the United States, over 90,000 people have received them.
Don’t take your hearing for granted, it is a gift. Please try to be Helping the Hearing Impaired.
