Pulling up to college campuses, teen age hangouts, drag strips and motorcycle races in his custom painted 1960 Corvette, Sgt Hack would pass out the Uncle Sam inspired t Shirt to prospective recruits.
Assigned to the Akron area which included Kent and Cuyahoga Fall, recruiting volunteers for the Army fighting a very unpopular war was an arduous task for most recruiters, but not Sgt. Hack. In fact, one of the original 25 persons who were indicted in the Kent State riots, was persuaded by the Sarge to join the Army. Thousands of the Uncle Sam Sgt. Hack Wants You T shirt were given out across northern Ohio and then were sold by Disney through Varsity House in 36 states
Several Hollywood celebrities who knew Sgt. Hack wore his T shirt including James Brolin and Ed Asner, whose children were often seen wearing the T shirts in tinsel town.
Today, the Uncle Sam Sgt Hack Wants You T shirt is immortalized in the Don F. Pratt Museum at Fort Campbell Kentucky. Sergeant Hack became the Recruiter of Choice for the 101st Airborne and his customized jeep and T shirt is on display.
